Ehren Haderlie January 28, 2006 To whom it may concern, I am currently a Brigham Young University – Idaho Bachelors candidate in Biology Education with minors in both Chemistry Ed. and Spanish Ed. Additionally, I have numerous experiences in teaching and working with the various aspects of public school systems. I am submitting this application in order to obtain employment in the School District as a Certified Biology and/or Chemistry Teacher. As the enclosed résumé indicates, I have had multiple opportunities to teach a variety of instructional levels as well as observe diverse teaching strategies. From the opportunities I had while teaching Jr. High, High School, and University students during my methods and practicum experiences, I have learned the necessity of teaching the subjects according to the class’s level of understanding as well as to the students’ specific needs. While observing teachers in various classroom settings I have been exposed to and come to understand not only the various kinds of teaching strategies but also the need to be flexible as well as consistent in classroom management. Teaching an H&R Block tax course helped me in adapting my teaching strategies to situations outside of the public school system and to topics beyond my field of study. My current student teaching experience has allowed me to apply the many teaching strategies that I have learned over the last few years. The Science/English class in particular has also provided more opportunities to learn how to help each student overcome his or her unique challenge. In addition to the skills that I have developed from observation and practicum classes, I have gained other insights through working with various aspects of the public school system. Emphasis on Special Education is a growing component of public schooling. My experience assisting a fifth grade boy with autism taught me the importance of the varied factors of Special Education, such as IEP’s, adapted standardized tests, and influences on classroom management. The recent emphasis on standardized testing due to the NCLB legislation provided me with an opportunity to work with a professor in initiating an ISAT mentoring program between the University and local public schools. Working with the professor and analyzing the collected data taught me the value of the information obtained through standardized testing. I know that the responsibilities of a teacher lie far beyond that of teaching; I am a role model and an influence in my students’ lives. My interests and hobbies, including those listed on my résumé, are an asset to the students because they allow me to be more involved in the school and community. Technology in the classroom is more than an asset; it is a necessity which strengthens the learning possibilities of the students. I am willing to use my skills in a variety of instructional facets to add to the diversity of the students’ education. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and look forward to hearing from you. Respectfully,
